Loxley House

Loxley House is a significant and visually prominent Grade II listed building situated on the corner of Spencer Street and Lower Holly Walk in Leamington Spa’s historic town centre. It stands as a prime example of the town’s rapid and elegant development during its Regency and early Victorian heyday as a fashionable spa resort.

The development of Spencer Street began in the 1820s and continued through the 1830s, a period of immense growth for Leamington. Loxley House was constructed circa 1838, likely as a high-status lodging house or a private hotel, designed to cater to the wealthy visitors flocking to the town to take the spa waters. Its prime location, close to the Royal Pump Rooms and Jephson Gardens, made it a desirable address.

For much of its history, the building served residential and commercial purposes. Over the decades, it has housed various establishments on its ground floor, reflecting the changing commercial landscape of the town. Its name, “Loxley House,” connects it to the historical naming conventions of grand Leamington villas, giving it an air of distinction.
